Maritzburg United has ended Chiefs title hopes after defeating them 1-0 on Tuesday 17 April 2012,at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane,Limpopo province.

The team of choice has done their homework and putting to much pressure on the glamour boys to get their important three points to stay away from the relegation battle with a different approach that payed the dividens at the end of the game.

It was a nice return of Maritzburg coach,Ernst Middendorp at Peter Mokaba Stadium, the venue where he and his former team Golden Arrows, caused a lot of complications in the Amakhosi camp back in September.

United made it clearly to the bottom clubs that they are willing to keep their status in the top league. They played well but it was on Chiefs side who wanted the win most to keep in touch to the log leaders.Maritzburg got their first away win all season at Peter Mokaba by defeating Chiefs.

The only goal that separated both teams came from the Zimbabwean striker Cuthbert Malajila on the 74th minutes. In the cause of the game Chiefs had a penalty decision turned down in the second half, a similar one to what Maritzburg had in the first half.

Chiefs had all their chances to win the game but they couldn't convert them and also failing impress under the new coaching staff Donald(Ace) Khuse,Doctor(16v) Khumalo and Arthur(10111) Zwane. This will be the worst season for the glamour boys ending it without a trophy.

Big up for the team of choice, keeping their hopes alive and possible to end the current season in the top flight football.Maritzburg will prove a point to the teams that are still going to play them in the remaining games after a positive results the got against Chiefs.

  1. the losing mentality does not only lie with coaches. Chiefs is still losing games even after the coache is being fired. Therefor the problem is not omly the coach, Kaizer Chiefs as an organisation should stop this losing mentality and they are a big team

  2. @Thaband yes we blamed the coach, now the coach is gone we still bring disappointing results. The problems is within the players there is no unity among them a team with confident and discipline would have done better, now Chiefs need to pull themselves together for the next season.

  3. I agree with thembanator, chiefs should work together and stop disappointing us, we have had enough disappointment to last us a lifetime.

  4. Now Chiefs needs to communicate to all the fans and relevant stakeholders what their next move is going to be. As they are a big club people expect them to constantly do well which they did not do this season

    1. This is to much to handle for the fans, because there's no hope for them to taste any silverware at the end of the season.

  6. I dont think so chiefs is starting to be the biggest team that always looses, and that is bcz the coach does not change the players, and that is not fair its always the very same people if its not Tshabalala, its Majoro,Tau to name the few he must just give some of the players a chance to expose themselves

  9. Big brother beaten by a lil brother. Maritzburg United taught Kaizer Chiefs a better lesson and proved that they can defeat big teams.Maritzburg United also proved that it does matter how big the team you are but the matter is on how you a play footbal.

  10. In every game there is a possibility to win or loose, in much the same way Amakhosi did. it simply shows that they are the part of the game and by loosing up to Martsburg they gonna be able to rectify their previous mistakes which led them to loose and do better in the next game.

  11. It seems like it has become a norm for teams such as chiefs or pirates to perform at their lowest level when playing with such teams, it may be that that want this small teams to create themselves a name or its just an opportunity of fame towards the small teams.

  12. i can say big up to my home team pmb united. the challenge that is bieng faced by chiefs is huge, there is no unity, lack of leadership, negletness, poor management...there are lot of issues that are needed to be taken into consideration

  13. This is a proof that no matter how favoured or how big a team is, there is always a 50/50 chances of winning or losing, Kaiser Chiefs neeeds to work hard and stop critisising "not so popular" team.
