Issues in football's players' agents and principles they need to follow

Football may be the world most favourite sport but it has its own problems when it comes to players' agents.

FIFA has been regulating the activity of players' agent since 1991.At the time anyone wishing to become an agent was required to have a personal interview of his or her relevant football association before FIFA would issue the licence. In addition,a bank guarantee of 200,00 Swiss Fracs was required to be lodged with FIFA by the successful applicant.

Issues
Nothing but trouble with the players' agents. The regulations in place today have tried to define the requirements to become a players' agent and monitor relevant professional competence.FIFA has also limited the period of validity of the players' agents licence and attempted to promote reasonable players' agents' fees, whilst trying to restrict the activities of unlicensed players' agent.

Principles
  • Application of regulations to players and clubs that engage the services of intermediaries
  • Intermediaries having no links to FIFA
  • Written contracts between intermediaries and clubs/players
  • Conflict of interest
  • A registration system for intermediaries(implemented by the member associations and through information provided by their affiliate clubs and/or registered players)
  • Non payment of commission to intermediaries if player is a minor
  • Invalidation of current FIFA Players' Agent Regulations.

Players are people like everyone and they deserve the best for what they work for in the field of play without being treated like slaves.

Do you think players' agents are treating players well as their representatives?

  1. its only sad that some agents rip off their clients/players and dont have their client's interest at heart when negotiating contracts with football clubs

    1. Agree with you, these so-called players' agents are useless when it comes to players interest. They only look on their side on how are they going to make more money.

  2. Sometime the agents are not making good business deals and delay with fundamental information. When is time for our player to go overseas it becomes a drama first before it comes to final procedures.

  4. we are living in the new world of business, those people who own players they are also operating their business so i cannot see any problem with them. it is hard for the player to go overseas because of these agents althogh it's simple for those who cannot sell themselves.

    1. Mr Chauke, you have to do business looking on your players interest and think for their future, some they get better offers and you find them not even playing through the whole season because of agents' choice.

  5. Some player's agents are doing their job properly particularly those who follow the procedures of being a good a player's client unlike for those who rely more on making more money are just useless.

  6. Having an client is to make life or job more easier but when is come to football it is a business where by the player interest is place under the carpet, clients in soccer ruined players career by looking for much commision.

  7. some agents put their interest and their benefits first regardless of players'intersests. agents were established to make player's lives easier but other agents turned this into "dirty-black-board"

  8. i think that player management is the best way to go because players whom normally negotiate their deals do not get whait they ask ofr in most cases so it is best to leave it for people who know what they do yes they do benefit from this but who can blame them its a dcifficult job to negotiate a contract for a player

  9. It seems like these agents have a common aim which is to gain money for themselves and not to benefit their players. FIFA is leading by example by making sure that there is discipline throughout the whole selection which is a good thing to avoid fake licenses.

    1. Easy but not because they have an agreement with the agents that they will negotiate contracts for them and they have to do as they are told by them.

  12. The first things the agents care about is making money and they'll do anything to make sure that they get money and then after that that's when they'll start doing their jobs correctly. These days money is all what people care about and it's what they put first.

  13. what most agents are doing is so wrong because at the end their players die a pauper, the public end up burrying their favourite stars instead of the angents,we've seen many soccer players ending up in the streets because they have been ripped off by their agents.
